The Montreal launch of In the Pressure of the Moment: Remembering Gerry McNeil was held Sunday, April 16th, at 2 pm at Indigo's on McGill Ave. We set up on the second level. Obviously, Montreal was special, and especially so on April 16th--63 years to the day that Gerry won the Stanley Cup at the Forum with a 1-0 overtime win!!! And so we had Gerry's miniature "Stanley" on hand. The first to arrive was none other than Rejean Houle, the "Ambassador" for the Canadiens. Jean Bouchard, son of "Butch" also came by; he was responsible for one of the most interesting personal photos in the book.

The afternoon was full of surprizes. You could have anticipated that descendants of Manny MacIntyre would come by? Then there were two more of Hal Murphy's children, Keith and Patrick.

Family and friends came out. There was Shannon the eldest of Gerry's children, and Donna, the youngest. There was another Davis cousin from Quebec City, Linda (an author herself). One of David childhood friends, Roy Halpin, was there. Roy, who played professionally himself in the UK and Japan, had also been at Gerry's funeral. A fellow academic and specialist in eighteenth-century literature, Benoit Melancon, said hello. Benoit has published a fascinating analysis of his own on the cultural industry that is "Maurice Richard"; he has also written about In the Pressure of the Moment on his blog.

Also there to greet the author were the book designer, Denis Hunter, the publisher, Louis Anctil, and some other Midtown friends.

Marco Asoro (another frat brother) won the door prize. Thanks to Debora Travares for organizing the event. Shannon and Donna also helped out with publicity. The weather didn't cooperate--it was absolutely glorious outside!
